We had some really fine weather and shooting conditions for the match. Low shooter turnout kept us to 4 competitors in the unlimited class. No factory class shooters signed up.
Right out the gate, in the first match and first relay Keith Myers went in search for the all illusive high scoring point area we all know as the “eye of the groundhog”. After the first card Keith was scratching his head. Everyone sooner or later did the same and Howie Bloom came out on top at the 300 yard match.

We moved the target frames in to 200 yards for the next yardage and Mr. Mirage showed up. Should be easier shooting 100 yards closer… right. Oh, did I mention the target gets really small and the mirage makes it real blurry at this time of day. By this time, you would have thought the only scoring ring on the target was that “eye “of the ground hog. It‘s time to make up some points. It sure is easy to count by 5’s and 15’s. Keith used one of his targets to really make up for some lost points. Ron Carter just kept chugging along shooting 10 rings.

After several months of Groundhog hibernation the Groundhog target’s finally made a showing for the DSRPC Championship Match… 7 shooters braved the nice weather, calm winds and warm temperature for a good day shooting competition match. The match was shot at 200yds and 300yds. A new target was used for the 200yd match, the Groundhog target could hear some whining from the benchrest shooters, but all was ok knowing it was the same difficult target for all.
For Year 2013 the Groundhog match will be held on the 4th Sunday of each month. The 400yd shooting line will be available when the ground work is complete for Range#6. Groundhog Benchrest is a fun match, dust’off that rifle, unlimited or factory and join us!
December was great, weather was windy and miserable, but was all good to get back on range#6 for some benchrest competitive shooting. Contrary to the windy conditions the scores were outstanding which has been a trend, as equipment and shooting skills have improved. The match was shot at 200yds and 300yds.
