Before the first shot was fired, Match Director Brian Jones presented the 2013 awards for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishes in the rifle competition and 1st and 2nd place finishes in the Charger competition. The winners were the same three grouchy old men that won in 2012.
Howard Bloom took first place in the rifle and second in the Charger. Ron Carter took first place in the Charger and second in the rifle. And Joe Caporaso brought-up the rear again finishing third in the rifle competition. Congratulations to all.
Now on to the March Match.
When shooting finicky 10/22s on a windy day, the ‘right’ tuner can make all the difference.
Or so say all the guys that didn’t finish first.
At our March match the only shooter with nothing to say about the subject was Howard ‘Howie’ Bloom. And that might be because he won the rifle match using a hard to manufacture ‘square’ tuner while the rest of us common folks all used the same type ‘round’ tuner.
Did his square tuner make a difference? Maybe, maybe not. But one thing is for sure. Although it pains me to say it, regardless what tuner he used, Howie is a fine marksman – – I think I’m gonna be sick.

As for the Charger match, as usual, the wind picked-up and made hitting the eighty chickens, pigs, turkeys and goats all the more difficult for most of us, but it didn’t seem to effect Ron Orton who shot a 70 to win the match. Good shooting Ron. Please don’t do it again anytime soon.
