Our Sunday rifle match started-off with a rain delay and soggy targets that had to be changed. It was not a good start, and for some, an omen of problems to come.
The first relay was shot under overcast skies and a swirling wind that helped produce scores in the low to mediocre range. After the first relay about half the shooters were grouped together and it was anyone’s match to win, but then the sun broke through and the bench rest gods smiled down on one lucky shooter. And of all people it had to be Howard Bloom.
“That’s the best I’ve ever shot,” said Bloom, at the end of the second relay. To everyone’s surprise Howie shot an outstanding 246 out of a possible 250. The over-the-top score was enough to guarantee him the win.
Congratulations Howie. And don’t worry. No-one expects you to ever shoot that well again.

The Charger match was a much closer affair with most shooters topping their own average. The most improved shooter was Match Director, Brian Jones who shot ten points above his average. At the end of the match only one point separated the first and third place finishers. Third place was determined by which shooter had the first miss.
