At our June 2nd match some shooters shot a personal ‘best,’ but didn’t win. And some shooters shot less than their ‘best’ and they didn’t win either. The sad truth is the #%X% wind got the ‘best’ of some of us – again.
The wind caused the rifle match to be an up and down affair. In the first relay four of the nine shooters shot very well, but could not repeat in the second relay. In the end it all came down to the third and last relay, which saw the greatly improved Bill Guida come from waaay behind to tie for the lead with a 704, only to lose by 1X to Ron Ainsworth. Bill took the stinging loss with a smile – that sorta looked pasted on.
In the first of two relays in the Charger match Jeff Barns shot a personal best of 39 out of a possible 40, but couldn’t repeat this outstanding effort in the second
relay, losing the match to Ron Carter by only 3 points. The rest of us just limped
In closing it should be noted that Howard ‘Howie’ found what he claimed to be a one point error in his rifle score. His long-time friend Ron A. immediately challenged. Uninterested parties were called-in. Checks and double checks were made and when all was said and done, the ‘loudest’ guy won the point. Wanna guess who that was?
